When our grandson, Keith III, was born in 1981 my grandfather, Ted Edwards was not well and I realized Keith III would not have his great great grandfather to tell him the wonderfully outrageous stories of Ozark life or the true stories of our family that Grandpa had regaled all 100+ of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with at every family gathering.
My becoming a grandparent for the first time added the responsibility of teaching my grandchildren everything I could discover about their ancestors and at the same time teach them the history that those ancestors were living. If the children can understand the challenges that their ancestors faced and adapted to, perhaps it will help them face their own challenges with more courage and hope.
