In the area of Auchindoun are a number of small farms, several of which have been associated with the Nicol family from at least the mid - 1700s to around 1924. They include Alnaboyle, Newley and Clunybeg which are adjoining properties.
Farms and Family. Predominately tenant farmers, it is interesting to note that Nicols can be associated with a number of families noteably of which are: Dey family who moved from Aberlour to Mortlach in the early 1800's: Roy family who had links with both Mortlach and Aberlour: Cumming Family of Inveron. McDonald family that occupied the farms of Little Keithmore and Coldhome: Myron family that occupied the farm of Earnfold
Farms often supported more than one family, and it appears that in 1871 the farm of Clunybeg supported two Nicol households and one Anderson household. Though unrelated as far as can be seen it is interesting to note that this arrangement had been in place for at least twenty years and it is also interesting to note that Andersons figure in family history through the marriage of a John Nicol to a Jean Anderson in 1754. Also that an Elizabeth Anderson married a James Dey circa 1803.
