Family legend is that 5 Feldmiller brothers(probably originally Feldmueller) came to the United States around 1840. They entered via the Port of New Orleans. Two of the brothers went to Missouri, two to Argentina and my Grandfather, Frederick headed toward Pittsburgh. In Pittsburgh, he met a man by the name of Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman owned a farm outside Cochranton, PA. Mr. Hoffman made brooms during the winter. He made a raft of these brooms and floated down French Creek to the Allegheny River to Pittsburgh to sell his brooms. He would then walk the 100+ miles home. It was during one of these trips that Hoffman met Frederick Feldmiller. Frederick worked as a laborer on the farm. He was 16 years old when he came to the United States. Hoffman had a daughter named Elizabeth who was 8 when Frederick arrived at the farm. When she was of age, Frederick married Elizabeth Hoffman. Charles Henry Feldmiller was a grandson to this couple.
