Carol Nubbert's Family Tree

Updated July 9, 2009

About Our Family Research

I'm researching the following names and in the following places:

NUBBERT - I'm doing a one-name study of the surname Nubbert. We all descend from a Joseph NUBBARD who died in Chelmsford, Essex in 1837. Anyone who has this name in their tree, please contact me.

METHLEY - I'm doing a one-name study of the surname Methley which originates from Yorkshire, England, UK. It dates back to the 1100s as DE METHLEY, then it changed to MEDLEY in the 1500s and then in my branch it changed back to METHLEY. The MEDLEY branch is much larger and is now very common in North America.

LEEDER - from Swanton Novers in Norfolk in the 1700-1800s. My family moved down to Brentwood, Essex in the late 1880s, then to Jersey and now live in Surrey. Another branch went to Leicester and it would be good to be in contact with anyone who originates from there.

STEPHENS - Jersey, Channel Islands and before that in the early 1800s - St. Columb Minor in Cornwall. Associated with the names JEFFERY and TREBILCOCK.

GODDARD - in Southwark, London in the 1870s and before that, Bunwell, Carleton Rode and Aslacton in Norfolk.

KNIGHT - around Canterbury, Kent in 1900s and before that, in Maidstone, Kent. As the head of the family Joseph Knight b.1838 was a Farrier in the 9th Royal Lancers and then with the 1st King's Dragoon Guards. His first family were all born in different places and countries and they never seemed to be in England at census time. Joseph married Dinah Gates from Alton, Hampshire in 1857 and they had 10 children. Dinah died in 1881 and Joseph remarried in 1886 - this time to Emma Newing with whom he had a further 9 children. They settled in Albert Road, Deal, Kent after he left the army and he died in 1921.

Joseph's first child with Dinah Gates was Thomas Charles Knight who married Harriet Isabella Kate Mutimer from Suffolk in 1882, and they lived in Canterbury, their first daughter Harriett Frances married Herbert Methley in 1902. This is my branch of the family. It would be good to be in contact with any descendant of Joseph Knight b.1838.

RIDG(E)WELL/REDGEWELL - from Great Totham then Finchingfield and Wethersfield in Essex, then Great Warley and Hackney, London. This family was also related to the name WHITEHEAD and SUCKLING also from Finchingfield and surrounding villages.

HARPER - Jersey, Channel Islands and before that Coupar Angus, Scotland (1870s), Birse and Kincardine O'Neil in Aberdeenshire, SCT (1780s to 1850s) - associated with the names EMSLIE and MIDDLETON.

ANDERSON - Dundee, Scotland (1850s) and Inchture, Perthshire (1820s) - associated with the name FERGUSON.

Other names and places include:
EMERY, Samuel - living in London in 1820s but possibly from Chelmsford in Essex where his daughter Louisa was born c. 1817
PENNYCOOK, Elizabeth - Kent, Gravesend - b1800
HOPKINS, John - London, St. George in the East & All Hallows - b1805
ROCKETT - Norfolk, Forncett, Bunwell - 1830s
PLANT, Samuel - Derbyshire, Birley Vale - 1810s
MARTIN, William - Yorkshire, Sheffield, Gleadless - 1840s
NORMAN - Suffolk, Laxfield - 1830s
NASH/NAISH - London, Southwark (1820s) and Wiltshire, Great Cheverell - before 1820s
JEAN and ROMERIL in Jersey, Channel Islands - pre- 1840. Also GIBAUT and ESNOUF.

I look forward to hearing from anyone with potential links.
