I am researching these surnames: Nuckolls : Hardeman Co. TN, and VA. Earliest known ancestor in USA is James Nuckolls I ( 1670-1727 ) from new Kent Co. VA. He has not been confirmed as the immigrant ancestor.
Nichol/ Nichols : Scotland / England. I am told that Nichol / Nichols is pronounced "Nuckoll / Nuckolls" in Scotland.
Willoughby : Hardeman Co. TN, NC, and MD. Earliest known ancestor in USA is William Willoughby / Willoby ( born 1623 England / died 1713 Dorchester Co. MD. ) immigrated to USA 1673.
Smith : Hardeman Co. TN. Earliest known ancestor is William Smith ( 1826 - 1908 ). His wife's name was Elizabeth "Louisiana". His daughter's name was ( from will ) Sarah Frances Smith Nuckolls. His sister's name was Elizabeth Smith Young. His grandsons were John R. Smith and James M. Smith, all of Hardeman Co. TN.
Brown : Hardeman Co. TN, and NC. Earliest known ancestor is Jesse Brown( born 1801 - ? ) wife's name is Moseley ( born 1804 - ? ). His children's names were Robert, Anson, Polly A., Nancy, Julia M., Daniel, Elizah, Sarah, and Mary. The 1850 TN Census shows both as being born in NC.
My great-grandafther ( his son ) was Robert H. Brown ( 1834 - 1922). He was married to Sarah M. Pipkin Brown. His children's names were Dan, Bettie Brown Sisco, John Brown, Belle Brown Baxter, Willie Brown, Ida Brown Howell, Sarah Frances Brown Nuckolls ( my grandmother ), and Sam Brown. He served with the 9TH INF TN CSA and the 14TH CAV TN CSA, in the Civil War. I have a lot of information on Robert and his wife from the Application for Confederate pension files in TN.
Any information is appreciated, and I will share anything I have as well.
