The Brown-Buell Family of Middlesex County, Connecticut

Updated November 10, 2002

About Our Family Research

I am researching the family history of George Brown, possibly of Scotland, who first settled in the Maromas area of Middletown, CT along with his wife, Angel Beck or Buck, possibly of Nova Scotia. They had four children: Mary Ann born 1851; Matilda G. born 1853; Charles Nathaniel born October 23, 1855, Middletown; and Clara P. born April 2, 1858, Middletown.

Charles is my direct ancestor. A farmer and laborer, he married Frances E. Hills of Middletown when she was 21. Charles died at the age of 58 in Essex, CT and is buried in Riverview Cemetery.

I am trying to find out what happened to his three sisters. Have searched for years, with no leads. If you believe your family and mine are connected, please contact me.

Family Photos
  • Frances E. Hills (11 KB)
My great-grandmother On January 30, 1877 in Middletown, CT Frances married Charles Nathaniel Brown. Charles was the third child born of George and Angel Buck. Her parents were Archibald Hills and Betsey Butler. This picture is somewhat dark as it is a tin-type photo. She died at age 72 and is buried next to her husband in Riverview Cemetery.
  • Josephine Augusta Buell (42 KB)
My grandmother On April 16, 1921 in Higganum, CT Josie married Charles Nathaniel Brown II, son of the first Charles. Born January 19, 1903, Josie was the daughter of William Buell and Emma Spencer.
