The Oakes's of the Pacific Northwest

About Our Family Research

I have not done much research yet. My grandfather's name was Percy O. Oakes, b. 1879, d. 1942, his sister, Mazie Oakes, died 1952, both in Spokane, WA. Their family came from Michigan, and my grandmother told me as well that a James R. Oakes, born around 1850, perhaps born in Maine, is their father. Not sure, as when Percy died, contact was lost with his side of the family. There is also another sibling, perhaps adopted, who was named Ethel Oakes Carlson, b. 1887, d. 1928. I am trying to establish if James R. Oakes is an ancestor, to find out the names of his children. He may have had a wife named Lillie (Lily?) May Oakes, b. 1852, d. 1940. I have just begun doing this research, so, assistance and suggestions are welcome!
