Our first Family of Oates came to Mississippi from North Carolin
between 1884 to 1885.Samuel Dickerson Oates Sr. Was Autry's Grandfather, who was born in 1860 in Greensboro, Chatham Co., N.C. He was married twice. 1st marriage in N.C. to Margaret Catherine Gaston from N.C. They were married bef. 1883 in N.C.
They hadm six children.
