My ancestor came from Ireland my great great grandfather, Patrick O'Leary came to Newfoundland and settled in Portugal Cove South on the southeast coast of NF. This was in the early to mid 1800's . We don't know which part of Ireland he came from and have very little information about him. My father Daniel O'Leary who is now 87 years old was the son of Patrick O'Leary and Frances Coombs , this Patrick O'Leary was my grandfather and he was born in 1879 , his father was Daniel O'Leary and the son of the Patrick O'Leary that came here from Ireland. There are still a few families of O'Leary's living in Portugal Cove South but none of them seems to know anything about the first O'Leary's who came from Ireland . I certainly would like to get information on this if anyone has any to share I would be very grateful. My mother's people lived in Renews on the southern shore of newfoundland , her maiden name was Bavis , when she married my father they settled in Renews and that is where I was born and raised . I had one brother , he left home and moved to Alberta , Canada when he was 22 years old and he settled in Fort MCMurray , Alberta and married a Newfoundland girl and they had four children, two girls and two boys. I married Eugene Oates from Fermeuse , the next community to Renews and we have two girls , one is 28, and the other is 25. They still live in St. John's. and are doing quite well . Sincerely; Maureen Oates (nee O'Leary)
