My Research started with a cousin of My Father, Otto Edward Grupp, Sr. His cousin was Arthur Louis Grupp and his dear wife, Marie Faber Grupp. Arthur's middle name came from his parents devotion to the first Church in Buffalo, Erie, New York, named St. Louis Church. Arthur and Marie were a big help to me and also St. Louis Church helping me as well.
Arthur Louis Grupp was the son of Emil Grupp, who was a brother to my Grandfather, Edward Johannes Grupp. Arthur was the youngest child of Joseph Grupp and his mother was the third wife of Joseph Griupp, Sr.
Joseph Grupp, Sr. first married Mary Anna Friedmann, who was my great Aunt because his second wife, Theresa Friedmann was my great grandmother, Theresa Friedmann a sister and were both born in Oberwasser, Baden, Germany. I have found their records in the film from Oberwasser, Baden, Germany and have gone back four more generations on their line. They also had a brother, who was named after their father, Francis Xavier Friedmann, Jr. who lived next door to Joseph and both his sisters.
It has been said that Joseph Grupp, Sr. came over at a young age but so far I have not been able to prove this. It was said he came from the Black Forest of Slavia, Germany which is not far from Oberwasser, Baden, Germany.
When I found his third marriage with Emil's mother it said Joseph's parents were Dominic Grupp and Christine Grupp. I never found the first two marriages.
When Joseph Grupp, Sr. setteled in Buffalo, Erie, New York he attended St. Louis church and most of his children were Baptized at St. Louis Church. When St. Louis was closed for a few years they attended St. Mary's Church and I did find Mary Magdalene in that church records. I believe Joseph's heart was at St. Louis Church and that is where he attended until his death.
