Bernard, (Barney) O'connor came from Ireland to the US in about 1838. He was born about 1819. He married Sarah E Baughton on May 21, 1841 in Allegheny City, PA. His sister Mary was one of the witnesses. They had five children born in PA, Margaret)June 1843), Sophia (February 1844), John (1846), Sarah (1849), Catherine (1850) and James (June 28, 1852). They then moved to Kentucky and was listed in the 1860 Census of Jefferson County. They had one child born in KY, Elizabeth (1858). They then moved to Jackson County, Ohio and another child was born, Bonronka(?). Barney worked as a dray driver. He and his son John enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. Barney served in Company D, 11th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry from September 30, 1862 until February 28, 1863. He served as Toewn Marshall of Jackson , Ohio in 1871. He died in 1887 and is buried in Ridgewood Cemetery, Lot 22, Block B, in Wellston, Ohio.
His son James is my Great Grandfather. he died in Buffalo, Ohio in 1920 and is buried there.
I need to find more about Barney's early life in PA and where he was born in Ireland. I know that a Patrick Murphy lived with Barney and Sarah in Kentucky and Ohio. He is buried in Coalton, Ohio. I do not know if he is related, but it may be a clue.
