About Our Family Research

This page is dedicated to the aquisition of news and history concerning my family and it's history.

My father, Sean Luigia O'Farrell, was last to be born in a large Irish family in 1927 and was the only one to be born in Brixton, England. We know little about his family as he is very reluctant to talk about his past. His father's name was Sean also and he originated from Kilcoole, County Wicklow. My father arrived in New Zealand sometime in the late 50's after meeting a 'Kiwi' girl in England. They were married and had two children, Moreene and Dene, but unfortunately they devorced soon after.

My Mother Francis (last name Stent) was born in Wellington, New Zealand. Her ancestors came from England and Ireland and eventually settled in a whaling town called Russell in the mid 1800s.

My mother and father met in the 60's and were married shortly after their brief aquaintence. From this union they bore 5 children. Sean, Bridget, Brendon(me), Michael and Kathleen or K.T as she preferes to be called. My father is and as long as I can remember has always been a farmer. He has worked on the farm that he currantly lives on for 21 years and will probibly die there, if he has his way.

As children we grew up in isolated rural areas on the east coast on New Zealand's Hawkes Bay province. It is a beautiful place with mild winters and hot dry summers. We were often up rooted and moved to new locations as my father went from farm to farm looking for more work, he was a contract fencer at that time. This way of life at such a young age has left my brothers, sisters and I with an inability to bond with our surroundings. On the upside we are hardly ever bothered with the uncertinties of change.

Over the years I have often wondered, as most people do in this country of recent migration, who I am and more importantly where I came from. I am currantly researching my family origins and have an unrelenting desire to know more about my Celtic connection. I am staunchly proud of my name and ancestry and know that one day I will make that important pilgrimage back to my ancestoral homeland of County Longford, Ireland.
