The Oldman Family

Updated February 13, 2003

About Our Family Research

It started out with a woman named Eve and a man named Adam. They begat a lot of generations of people. At some point Nimrod caused our creator confuse our languages and we all separated into our own places to dwell.- (source: The Bible) So I know we came from all over the world. I think because the Oldman name is rare, that the ones we see in the web are probably related somehow...we just cant make the connection yet.
... As for me, I will leave behind what I find out for the next generation. At some point, I anticipate I will not have a keen memory so I will do this while I still remember.
I came from Arkansas to Florida in late 1989. I began looking for my roots after both parents had died. Life changes so many times over its course, and Ive done so many things in mine. Good and bad. In 1998 I got on the world wide web and started looking. I posted a lot of information but never quite found anyone. I am trying again in 2000 and posted on the Oldman board @Rootsweb.
In 2001,a lady named Marie Vann Thurman saw my postings and wrote me. She put me in contact with a woman named Dorothy Lucille Simpkins. Dorothy, told me on the phone that her Grandmother was my Fathers Mother. Her Grandmothers name was Isabelle Thurman. Isabelles Mother was Philena. Philena was full-blood Cherokee. I have since researched the native americans, I have to say that of all the persons I have found, I have the utmost respect for these.
I recently found The Stidham family in Arkansas. The great great grandson of Uncle Ed & Aunt Minnie Stidham, I contacted via e-mail. His Father was out of town and will be getting back with me when he returns from his trip. I believe he was in California visiting his Dad. I actually met the Stidhams as a child so for me this is a good connection. Dan Stidham is a successful Attorney in Arkansas. I was a victims advocate and the president of The Parents Of Murdered Children. I think it is ironic that I was discussing a high profile case he had with my co-workers here in Florida. Never realized he was The Stidham Family. Small world ?
I was contacted by my half-brothers son John and Larrys wife, Sandra Oldman on the posting boards.John is from Illinois and Larry from Arizona. I found one John Oldman on the Kapplers rolls, an Indian treaty from 1914,formed between the Winnebago Indians and The U.S. Government Dept. Of Indian Affairs, giving property rights to John.
I have not put everything together yet so dont be surprised if you ask me something and I re-direct you to Thurmans Quest. Just recently found roots that led back to Pocohantas, her sister Nikoletti and their Father Powhatten.
I dont have documents to share but I will exchange anything I find out with ANY of the family. I feel thats why we are doing this.
I wish all of you peace in your journey... wherever it takes you.
Carolyn...
Daughter of John Oldman

P.S... without Marie Vann Thurman, I would still be chasing a Grandmother named Sara?. My Grandmothers name is Isabelle. I am forever grateful for her sharing the information with me. Must also mention: Dan Stidham, Dorothy Lucille, Susan, Phil Thurman(whos notes are incredible) GOOD JOB to all of you!
cousins wow!
