I have used Henry O'Neal as the starting point for this line of O'Neals because most of the family knows of the Hamilton County, Illinois connection. Henry brought his family from the Newport area of Cocke County, Tennessee, between 1855 and 1860 since his last born was shown as being born in Cocke Co. in 1855 in the 1860 Hamilton Co census. Henry is listed as Henry O. Neal in that 1860 census. Because of this I believe that the family name was changed from O'Neil to O'Neal at this time.

Henry seems to be the son of Henry O'Neil of Cocke Co. based on a report of a family bible showing that linage. Darius O'Neil is the brother of Henry and is fairly well documented. For more information on the line check the genealogy sites for both counties.

John O'Neal is the son of Henry and married Martha Ann Hunt in Hamilton Co., Illinois.
