DALRYMPLE: As the last of "my" Dalrymple line, I've specific goals in mind: Finding my closest living relative on the Dalrymple side of the family, and fulfilling the promise I made to my late father to complete the family tree as far back as possible. So far, I have established my 2nd great grandfather as John Dalrymple, born circa 1770 in Scotland, likely in Fifeshire. He married Jean Will 25 Nov 1785 in Kinglassie, Fife. If you are from this line, please contact me!
CROSS: On the side of my late mother's family, I've located my GGGG grandfather John Cross's wife Jane Dean. "My" John Cross came from Swalcliffe, Oxford, married Jane in Shutford, and settled there. The family later moved to Birmingham. Associated names are Littleford, Turner, and Adkins.
BRADBURN: Looking for descendants of the biological father of my maternal grandmother. Florence Bradburn was born 12 February 1875 in Birmingham, England. Her mother was Eliza Sophia Bradburn, and the two were raised as sisters by Eliza's parents, as Eliza was very young when she had Florence out of wedlock. The father's surname was Lapworth, and he supported Lizzie and Florence for some time. His was likely Thomas William Lapworth born circa 1844, who married Fanny Smith in Jun 1875. The Bradburns later emigrated to Canada.
THOMSON: My maternal great grandmother Ann Baldwin Thomson, b 15 Dec 1848 in Gorbals, Lanark Co, Scotland, died at a young age in South Africa. She had married William Pearson September 1868. Her children were sent back to England to be raised by maiden aunts Emma and Nellie Thomson. The father of Anne, Emma and Nellie was Alexander Thomson, b Scotland 1816, who married Emma Jane East sometime prior to 1844. I have not been able to find Alexander's parentage. He was a professor of theology at the University of Edinburgh. Another of his daughters, Emily Gertrude Thomson, was an artist and a friend of Charles Dodgson, who wrote the Alice books under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. She illustrated a number of his poems and also "The Nursery Alice".
I've lots of material to share with anyone who thinks my family may have crossed the trail of theirs at some point. Send me an e-mail at lesleyo@telusplanet.net (I've not created a link, to discourage spammers!)

Family Photos
|
- Wendy (Cross) Dalrymple, 1937 (28 KB)
My father took this lovely photo of my mother on Mount Royal in Montreal. She was 26.
- Kenneth Cross Morell Dalrymple, 1984 (39 KB)
I took this shot of my father when we were on a trip in southern Alberta. He really suited the cowboy hat and it's now my favourite shot of him.
- Ken Dalrymple, RCAF Squadron Leader (18 KB)
This portrait would have been taken in 1940 or 41, when dad enlisted for WWII. He would have been about 30 at the time.
- Florence Bradburn, 1898 (32 KB)
My maternal grandmother Florence (Bradburn) Cross was a tiny woman of great strength. She was 23 when this photo was taken.
- George Lorenzo Cross, 1898 (34 KB)
I never knew my paternal granddad George Cross, as he died shortly after I was born. Wish I had! He was a building, with the avocation of oil paiting. This photo would have been taken around the time of his marriage to Florence, when he was 24.
- Wedding, Charles Coughtrey & Doris Cross, 1929 (25 KB)
My mother's elder sister Doris married Charlie, who had literally sailed the world before settling down in Montreal, Canada with her. Charlie was 28, Doris 27.
