I began searching family history on my father's side about 5 years ago and only recently have been searching for my mother's. Her maiden name is Moran and we know little of her history. I'm hoping, by creating this page, that someone will, some day, link to us.
I searched records in Lake County, IL, specifically, book entitled, History of Lake County written by John J. Halsey, 1912; a document written by Patrick Doyle, titled Meehan's Settlement, dated 1897; 1840 Census and 1860 Census, Peterson Funeral Home Records, Lake County Clerk's Office and grave site of Dominick Moran. From these records, I've learned that Dominick Moran and his wife Honora (Jennings) came to the USA when their daughter, Mary C., was 4 years old. They built a log cabin in 1840 and had at least 4 additional children, born about 1842, 1845, 1847 and 1849.
As far as I can discern, no one in this line has attempted to assemble genealogical information. A very brief lineage follows:
Dominic Moran, b. abt 1812, d. 9/12/1889. He married Honora Jennings in Ireland and came to the US from County Mayo, prior to 1840. Their children:
Mary C., aged 4 yrs prior to 1840 Bridget, b. about 1842 Edward, b. about 1845 - my great grandfather John, b. about 1847 Margaret A., b. about 1849
Edward married Margaret M. Shiel, born 1856, Ohio. They had 11 children, one of which was my grandfather, Joseph Leo Moran (a twin of Thomas Moran).
Joseph Leo Moran, born 3/30/1891. He married Willie Henrietta Fowler of Wycliffe, KY and had 2 children, both born in Lake County, IL:
Mary Louise (known as Marilyn), b. 11/1/1925, d. 7/1/2000. She maried Lambert Worseck and had 3 children: Michael, Peggy and Alice. Jeanette Marie (known as Janet), b. 9/12/1927, still living and my mother. She married Robert Frances Pratt and had 6 children: Barbara, Robert, William, David, Stacey and James Michael (stillborn).
As soon as I've completed this portion of my family tree, I'll upload to this site. Until then, if you'd like additional information, you're welcomed to email me, Barbara.
