About Our Family Research

I started searching in earnest in January of 2001 for all of my family roots. I started out wanting to search for everyone at once. What a dreamer I was! I did not realize the magnitude of what I had begun.

I am looking for relatives of both my parents, Harley Saxon Aldred and Opal Pauline Ellis.

I have found my dads' fathers side back to James Stewart Aldred born in New York in 1865. His father was John Aldred born in England. He was narried to Louella Keithley and they had 12 children one of which was my grandfather,John Henry Aldred. My grandmother, Lillian Leisinger was born in Nebraska to Herman and Adie Amelia Perkins. She and Joh had five children.

On my moms side I have found her Ellis heritage back to 1700's Virginia with Robert Ellis, Sr, being a Revoultionary War veteran.

Her Dickens heritage has been somewhat a mystery until lately. I have found some confusing mixing of two Dickens families in online trees. They have my grandmother, Dora married to a gentleman in 1912. Howeverm it was her sister Dovie that was married before, not Dora. Her sister Dovie is correctly married to a Mr. Holt. Dovie was married before, not Dora probably to the gentleman listed in the online trees

Dora was married only once to Joseph Parks Ellis in 1904 and all her children were born from 1905 to 1916. Both Dora and Dovie are correctly listed as children of Christopher C. Dickens and Ida. Ida Ruth Pollard was born to Ben and Sally Pollard in Slackland, Alabama. She was married before to John Cane (spelling unknown). Ida had a child, Johnnie Emma. Christopher had no children by his previous marriage. Ida and Christopher also had two sons, Thomas E. Alonzo Dickens and William Homer. Homer died at about age 17 of appendicitis. Alonzo married at least twice with a total of three children from the two women, Dorothulia and Leila.

My Dickens line has been researched (thanks to others!) back to 1553 England and though there is no proof that anyone can find, an anecdotal story in an old family tree owned by Sam Dickens (Samsclan) indicated that Charles Dickens, the author visited with his American cousins (in our line) while on his "American tour".

I would appreciate any help in finding more about all these families.

Thanks for your help. Sharon

Family Photos
  • Joseph Parks Ellis and Family (251 KB)
These pictures are from my mother's family album. Joseph and Dora are in the middle surrounded by their children. The oldest is Estelle, playing the violin. My mother, Opal, who was photographed in 1933 when she was about age 17, is the youngest. In the upper right is Elmer, (Shady) the oldest boy; and in the lower left, Homer, also known as Dick.
  • Lou Ella Keithley Aldred Root (95 KB)
This is the only photo that I have of my great grandmother, Lou Ella, but it has lots of great information.
  • Armintha Ellis Bolding 1914 Family Reunion (526 KB)
In middle of the photo is Armintha taken with her family. She is the sister of my grandfather, Joseph P. Ellis. Any questions regarding the family members taken by request for the owner of the picture, Eddie Presley, Arminthas great grandson.
