Notes for Adam Carter Sr. Gann: [Susan Walker.GED.FTW]
There has been no proof that Adam's middle name was Carter. We only know that the letter C. in his son's name stood for Carter. This information was supplied by Bill Gann 7406 Englewood Lane Raytown, MO 64133 Adam Gann has a property tax dated 1781 for land of 150 acres on the Nolichucky River, 2 horses, 7 cows, total value 427 pounds. Ownership of this land was still disputed by the Cherokee Indians. All white settlers lived under fear of attack. Tory uprisings required quieting until the British army moved in and took a battle stance. Excerpts from his will, dated 03-08-1812: ".....Blessed be God attest this my last will and testament finding myself in a great disposition of body but in my rite reasons and in perfect senses first of all committing my body to the earth and my soul to God who gave it. I think it proper to fix my afares leaving Adam Gann and Nathan Gann my executors of my estate. First of all I leave unto my beloved wife Christan all my estate consisting of one negro in the hands of my son Dan Gan and all my horses all my cattle sheep and hogs and household furniture to remain in the hands of my wife Christin Gan during her natural life or widowhood and then to be divided equally amongst my three children Peggy, Samuel and Hannah. Unto all my sons and daughters begotten by my first wife I leave one doler to each of them as witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal." 1999: LDS Family Search said Adam died on Aug 6, 1812 in Dandridge, TN. I have his death on Mar 9, 1812. Also I had Adam married to a Christen Hunter. The search said Adam was married to a Christen and a Christiana Hunter Friar. So I think Christen was a nickname for Christiana. And I think she later married a Friar.
2002: Craig E. Hubbard lists Johann Gann from Alsace-Lorraine, France/Germany instead of Samuel as Adam Gann SR's father.
