BIOGRAPHY: Enlisted June 20, 1813. He was a farmer when he enlisted. William received his first wound in 1813, somewhere in the Terrotory of Upper Ohio or Michigan, while engaged in one of the battles with the British in the War of 1812. It was a bullet wound in his right thigh. --On July 25, 1814, Pvt. William Gann participated in the Battle of Lundy's Lane, often called the 'charge at Brightwater,' in Col. Miller's regiment against the troops of Britain's Lord Wellington.--On Sept.4, 1814, in the Battle of Erie (Fort Erie was south of Niagra Falls), William received a severe injury, a bullet wound in his right arm, which led to the amputation of his arm on Sept. 10, 1814.
