Updated June 29, 2004

About Our Family Research

THE OROSZ FAMILY IS ORIGINATING FROM KÓTAJ,FORMER NAMED KERESZTÚT, SZABOLCS COUNTY,HUNGARY, WHICH WAS FIRST MENTIONED IN RECORDS IN 1383. MORE THAN SEVEN GENERATIONS BORN, MARRIED AND DIED IN OR NEAR TO THIS VILLAGE, BACK TO ABOUT 1690,AS OLDEST RECORD. KÓTAJ WAS DESTROYED AND BURNED BY TURKISH INVADERS IN 1582.AFTER SOME YEARS NEW SETTLERS WERE INVITED FROM RUTHENIA (NOW THE UKRAINE)TO POPPULATE THE DESERTED LAND HERE.WE INHERITED THEIR GREEK-CATHOLIC RELIGION.THE NAME "OROSZ" MEANS RUSSIAN IN HUNGARIAN.THE OROSZ FAMILY WAS ALWAYS IN CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DOBRÁNSZKY (DOBRA) FAMILY, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE POLISH ORIGIN NAME.IN THE OROSZ FAMILY APPEARED NOBLES, BUT THEY WERE NEVER RICH, AND ALL MAKING THEIR LIVING IN THE AGRICULTURE OR AS CIVIL SERVANTS.
ON THE MOTHER SIDE THE RESZLER FAMILY IS OF SWABIAN/GERMAN ORIGIN. THESE SETTLERS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE COME FROM WÜRTTENBERG STARTING 1712, FROM RIGGENWEILER,BEBENHAUS,AND WOLKETSWEILER REGION.MOST OF THE RESZLERS (FORMER RESSLERS)WERE CRAFTSMEN,MECHANICS AND MAJORITY OF THEIR DESCENDATS LIVE NOW IN ROMANIA, IN SATU MARE AND MARAMURES COUNTIES, THE REST IMMIGRATED TO THE USA, AND RECENTLY TO GERMANY.
OTHER NAMES IN THE FAMILY:DOBRÁNSZKY,KEPLON,H.NAGY,SIPOS-WEIGERT (SWITZERLAND),ORBÁN,MOLNÁR,SÜTÖ,DOHANOVITS,RUZA,HATÁR,HÉNYEL,DEMÉNY,TÓTH,URBÁN
