MY OSBORNE AND PETTIGREW ANCESTRY

Updated March 11, 2005

About Our Family Research

I grew up knowing very little about the ancestry of my parents. My mother was a Pettigrew born in Georgia and raised in South Carolina. My dad was born and raised in Indiana. I knew my grandparents, but knew very little about their parents and family histories. I had heard that the Osborne's were English and the Pettigrews were Scotch and Irish.
I began my research in 1999, after my wife began researching her family. Since then, I have learned much about both families and have visited the Pettigrew family ancestral home, the "Crilly House" (built in 1701) in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. I have discovered many interesting facts about the hardships these families endured in settling in this country, including Indian captivity and their patriotic service to our country.
I dedicate this work to my mother, Kathryn Orhea Pettigrew, who passed away on January 7, 1999.

  • The "Crilly House" (16 KB)
The Crilly House is the ancestral home of the Pettigrew family. It is located just outside the town of Aughnacloy, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It was built by James Pettigrew II, my 6th great grandfather. He was an officer in the army of King William of Orange. He was awarded more than 300 acres for his heroic efforts at the famous Battle of the River Boyne in 1690.
