My family started out in Indiana (Those Southern Indianians) and migrated to Arkansas and Oklahoma. Both of my parents encouraged my in my search giving as much detail as they could and passing on all of the old family photos. They also passed on some misinformation creating a lot of road blocks along the way. My father told me his middle name Theodore had been in our family for over 100 years and that his side of the family had already been charted and we were direct decendents of Sir Francis Drake.
After telling that story all of my life, imagine my horror to find out that his grandfather's name was Theodous not Theodore and Sir Francis Drake never had any children! Well, there went the direct part anyway.
My grandmother always said her line came from Davy Crockett, but my mother confided in me years later that she felt Nano said that, in keeping up with my grandfather's Sir Francis Drake story. Can you imagine trying to trace your family tree with all that information floating around.
