Updated March 17, 2009

About Our Family Research

James Taylor Rice was born in the year 1850. And his wife Jane Alexander Rice was born in the year 1851. They had two sons James Lemuel Rice and Bennie D. Rice and of course they lived in Shady Grove Section of Pickens County S.C. He was a farmer and he enjoyed working on his farm. Most everyone back then rasied their on food. Back in those days the had smoke houses to hang their meats. Mr. James T. Rice was a hard worker. On a certificate of death it say's that the full name is James Taylor Rice and also on this certificate it say's that he was born in March 1849' not 1850. And that he died Jan' 26 1919 and he was 70 years of age. His fathers name was Isaac Rice and his mothers name was Annie Black Rice. I'am trying to get this right but sometimes they give [2] dates 1910 census gives 1850 and his certificate of death gives 1849. So i believe that the certificate of death is right. but anyway i'am so glad That i'am able to get this. Now let's take a good look at Mr. and Mrs. James Lemuel Rice. First let's start with James Lemuel Rice. He was born in the year 1878 in the Shady Grove Section of Pickens County' he was the son of James T. And Jane Alexander Rice. Which he worked in textile for many years and also was a farmer and a very good farmer. James Lemuel Rice lived in Easley and the Mills Mill community of Greenville S.C. Then he spent the rest of his life with a daughter' Mrs. Fred Carman of the Zion community near Easley. Mr. James L. Rice was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Pickens S.C. Mr. Rice had a large family that the Lord had blessed him with. We are thankful for the life that he lived. He lived to be 81 years of age. He passed away in a rest home in Pickens' S.C. after an illness of about 10 weeks. Praise the Lord for Mr. Rice and for the life that he lived. We are thankful for his wife also. Which she stood by him until her death in 1940 she was 65 years old and was born in 1875. Yes we must give God all the praise. This we surely do for Sarah Sloan Rice his wife. Ovie Rice Mr. Rice was a man who loved God. He was a man of faith and he put all his trust in God. When he would pray he would pray with faith believing that God would answer his prayer. You know that i really enjoyed being aroun Ovie Rice. I went to church with him a lot of times. Oh how that Mr. Rice would shout and Praise the Lord. He enjoyed going to a feet washing at the church. Now when i say that Ovie would shout i mean he would shout and the glory of the Lord would come down. Boy oh boy he really got happy you could fill the power of God. This is like a rushing wind wait i fill God let me say one more time like a rushing wind. Ovie was a kind and gentle man. Mr. Rice touched the life's of so many. Ovie Rice lived the life in other words he was for real. I believe that he will always be remembered by all those who knew him. He would never argue with anyone about the word of God. But Ovie would not back down on what he believed. He also believed that it was a sin to argue with anyone about the word of God. This is a great llesson that we all should take to heart and never ever argue.
