This is about my great--great grandmother Nancy O'Shields who was born in 1804 in Spartanburg S.C. Nancy O'Shields was a nurse in Spartanburg and also a nurse maid. She was always helping others in everyway that she could. Most all the info that i have is from my first cousin Annie Wilson. I have to tell you a little bit about Annie Wilson so that you will know where i'am coming from. Now Annie was the grandaughter of W.G.S. O'Shields and she lived in this house along with her mother. Her mother was my aunte myrtle and she was my daddy's sister. Annie was told about Nancy O'Shields from her mother and her mother got her info from her daddy W.G.S. O'Shields. And W.G.S. O'Shields wrote down lot's of things about the family in what was called the family Bible. Let me add that W.G.S. O'Shields was born 1863--1938. And he Was the youngest son of Wiley Drayton O'Shields. Wiley Drayton O'Shields was a son of Nancy O'Shields. W.G.S. O'Shields would talk to his daughter a lot's and he would tell about his grandmother Nancy O'Shields. And how he loved his grandmother. Nancy went from place to place to those that were sick and needed her. It is not really known about how many children that Nancy O'Shields had. It has been told that she had three children. and also has been told about 5 children. But we do have record of 5 children that it is believed that she did have these 5 children. William Paschal O'Shields born 1824--1909 Samuel O'Shields 1825' Wiley Drayton O'Shields' born 1832--1882' Polly Ann O'Shields' born 1833' and Isaac Scott O'Shields born 1834 or 35. I come up with these names after lot's of study and research. And all these children were born in same place Walnut Grove Spartanburg County S.C. Yes i think that this is the list of all her children. They were very proud people and they had every right to be proud. W.GS. O'Shields was very proud of the fact that he was Irish. Yes Annie Wilson has told me so very much about the O'Shields. And they loved to tell ghost storries at night. But with my research i must take a good look at David O'Sheal he was born 1690 a son of John O'Sheal. As i keep searching and researching i really do beieive that David O'Sheal was truly the first to come here from London in about 1714. And we are descendants of David O'Sheal. Now David was born in London England. But going back to his daddy John O'Sheal was born in Ireland this is where we come in with Irish. The O'Shields had a string band which this band was very good. the band was made up of family members. Wiley Drayton O'Shields' William Paschal O'Shields' Samuel Drayton O'Shields. Isaac Scott O'Shields All played in this band. And W.G.S. O'Shields played in this band and Henry O'Shields also played in this band. They would play at the O'Shields Reunion and church's and other places. what a great time they would have I'am sure glad to be a O'Shields. I thank God each and every day that He lets me live.. W.G.S. O'Shields was County Auditor for many years. Mr. O'Shields was employed in various capcities by the county for more than forty-- five years. before being elected to the office of auditor he served as magistrate clerk of the Probate Judge's Office and as clerk in the treasure's office. He was the son of the late Wiley Drayton O'Shields and Julia Smith.
