Wiley Drayton OShields born July 27,1832 death October 31 ,1882 at the age of 50 , He married August 17 ,1851 to Julia Smith born Sept 8 ,1827 , Daughter of Enoch Smith born 1793 and Abigale Elder 1796 in Spartanburg S,C Julia's Father died when she was a young girl and her mother My Great great grandmother Abigale Smith lived with them untill her death abt 1875

In 1861 Came the Civil War
Wiley Drayton enlisted in the Confederate Army by Col P.F Stevens of the Holcombe Legion Co, A Dec 29, 1861.
He was given a Medical discharge 5th day of April, 1862
And as his 7th and youngest son

His father was a self made man in the truest sense, Beginning Life with no advantages except those with which he was endowed at birth ,
After he served in the Confederate Army He came home to Walnut Grove in Spartanburg County and with his own hands begin to lay the foundation for a home
His father had 5 sons a wife and his mother in law who was depending on him,.
Through his efforts continued during the years he became a well- to- do resident of the county Owning a good farm and enjoying the respect of all who knew him. ,
Wiley Drayton died at an early age leaving his wife and 6 sons to morn his death, , ,Wiley Drayton and Julia O'Shields were members of the Philadephia Baptist Church in Pauline S,C and that is where they are buried .
Their youngest son,was My Grandfather Wiley G,S O'Shields Married Nov 1883 to Annie Elizabeth Hyatt born Jan 2 .1865 in Union S,C My Great grandmother Lived with them untill her death in 1904 she saw her son became the Auditor of Spartanburg S,C in 1902 he served in that position for 32 years and as his father before him , He also left behind a life to be proud of , he was influenced by the advice of his mother in early years and has striven to follow., The high example of Noble Christain Living which she set, And he enjoys the highest respect of the people of Spartanburg County.
My father Denny Leonard O'Shields Sr, was the youngest son of W,G,S and Annie Elizabeth Hyatt O'Shields , And as the youngest son of Denny and Lillie Belle Riddle O'Shields
.I continue to re- search my family History going through ALL the Public Records. I have found No information on the Parents of Wiley Drayton O'Shields, and if I do find any it will be my honor to add it to the family History because it will be my history as well, And as I do research on my Family History . I serve an awesome God who will show me the way.
