Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I have been dabbling with the family history since I was 15 and that's a long time ago.I have found some interesting characters, but it has proven hard to find anything out about some of them. One character seems to have just appeared , had a couple of children, then disappeared off the face of the earth. The only way I actually came across him was by checking through the microfische and jotting down family names. Two children of one of my ancestors were also registered under this blokes name. Where did he come from? As I have a very limited budget, I have a lot of certificates etc to buy yet, but I'm keeping notes on all names that I feel may be connected to me family and one day I may be able to get those certificates that I need to prove ancestry. I love looking for my ancestors and try to spend time looking at the library, much to my children's disgust. I have looked onthe internet , but haven't mastered that source yet and as the budget doesn't allow funds for memberships,a lot of the sources are not available to me. Branches of the family have held reunions a few years ago , but there haven't been any recently and I've found it's quite often the recent additions to the family tree that are the hardest to get info on.
