The William Lake's of Chester, Warren County, NY

Updated June 1, 2002

About Our Family Research

William Lake appears at first appeared in our research as a private serving under Colonel Swift during the War for Independence. He volunteered from Paulett, VT. The National Archives supplied us with a copy of the Family Bible Mary Perkins, William's widow, supplied to her son Samuel Lake, for the land grant for William's service to his country.

Their son, Erastus, served during the War of 1812 and received a pension for his service, accoring to his granddaughter, Effie (Lake) Close. Her letter is in my possession and is the only "proof" I have at this time. Some of William and Mary's children served in the Civil War, from the North, and some of their decendents served in both World Wars. There was also service during the Korean Way. Don't know about any other service during war time, only about peace time service.
