About Our Family Research

I am a beginner but have been interested for over 20 years in learning more about my father family, especially about my father's father. I know his name is Howard Owens, and he was a farmer in Indianapolis, on the Westside,in Haughville around 1870 to 1916.He sold his crop to Vancamp. I know he was buried in Mt. Jackson Cemetary on Tibbs across from the Central State Hospital. His wife's name was Mary Barlow, and between them, they had nine children. Names of children are Etta,Edward,Leonard, Addie,Andrew,Irvin,William,Anna, and Roscoe. I understand they came to Indianapolis from Horace Cave KY. That Mary's father was white and a professor at a college. Mary's mother was black. Howard was a child slave joining the Civil War when he was 12 years old. If anyone can come to my aid I would appreciate it very much.
