The Paarlberg Family of South Holland, Illinois

Updated April 6, 2004

About Our Family Research

The Paarlberg family tree can be traced from The United States of America back to the Netherlands. The first Paarlberg to enter the USA was Antje Waagemeester Paarlberg. She sailed from Belgium in 1847 with her husband, Klaas Paarlberg, and their seven children: Antje, Willem, Jan, Teunis, Pieter, Trijntje, and Gerrit. Klaas, the husband, died enroute to America and was buried at sea in April of 1847. The youngest son, Gerrit, died in June of 1847 after they had reached Chicago, Illinois.
The "Weduwe Paarlberg" bought property on Thorn Creek in the South Holland, Illinois area and established a homestead farm with her suriviving six children.
I am a direct descendant of her son Pieter, born in Spanbroek, Netherlands, on December 19, 1840.
