The Scott family came to America in the fall of 1881. Moses Scott was born in Laneham Notts, England in April 26, 1836.
Son of Richard Lunn born about 1804 in England and Elizabeth
Scott born about 1811. It is my belief they were never married.
Moses Scott married Margaret Wilson about 1858 somewhere in England. Margaret Wilson was born on July 17, 1839 in Fatsfield,
Durham, England. They had multiple children of which only three
lived to adulthood. George, John, and Mary Ann Elizabeth. George
remained in England as far as I know. John and Moses headed for
Illinois in the fall of 1881. Followed the next spring of 1882 by Margaret and Mary. After much hardship the family was reunited in Illinois with the help of the Morman Church. Mary and her parents soon moved to Utah. My great grandfather John Henry Scott remained in Illinois. John Henry Scott was born on
July 22, 1863 in Sutherland, Durham, England. He immigrated to
America in 1881. He married Bridget Wyatt in 1880. Bridget was
born in April, 1868 in Sutherland, Durham, England. I assume they
were married in England all though I have no proof of that other
than they were married the year before John left for America.
I have no proof of Bridget traveling to America with John in 1881 or that she later arrived with Margaret and Mary in 1882.
John and Bridget show up on the 1900 Federal Census for Appanoose
county, Lincoln Township Iowa 66A. John is listed as a Farmer and Bridget as his wife. They are listed as living in England, OH, and IA. Also listed are their 8 children. William H. born March 1886, Maggie E. December 1876, Anna B. August 1890, Johnnie G. March 1893, Antone December 1893, Sarah E. July 1896, and unnamed son born December 1899. The unnamed son is my grandfather Jasper Milani Scott. Jasper Milani Scott was born
October 12, 1903 according to the family so he might not have been the unnamed son on the 1900 census. He was born in Appanoose co, IA. Jasper married Icle Iotha Milburn on February
28, 1925 in Walnut City, IA. Which was a house on some land outside Mystic, Ia. Icle was born on October 9, 1904 in Appanoose co, IA. They had ten children; 9 boy and 1 girl.
All are living except for two. Teddy died as a child and Bobbie
Charles died in adulthood. I have recently begun my search of my ancestry and hope that anyone with more information would help me in my journey. The Scott family is a colorful bunch.
