My name is Tracey Paech. I grew up in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia and have always had an interset in my relatives. I am mostly of German/Prussian descent with some British thrown in on occasions. I've long been aware of the Paech [father's father's side] and Bottroff [father's mother's side] lineages, probably because my family lived in the same general area and I spent much time talking to my grandma and visting relatives with her.
Until recently, when I have made my searching more intentional, my knowledge of my mother's side has been scant. It has been exciting to discover a little more about the Paddick [mother's father's side], and a lot more about the Drefke [mother's mother's side] family lines. The Paech family were among the first European colonists in South Australia, arriving from Prussia on the 'Zebra' in 1838. Their homeland was experiencing war and religious persecution, when German Protestants failed to worship through the state controlled Lutheran Church. They, along with many others decided to emmigrate in order to have freedom in their religious practices. My great-great-great grandfather, Johann Georg Paech, a farmer, originated from the village of Kay [now Kije-Poland], east of Zullichau [now Sulechow-Poland], in the former Province Brandenburg in Prussia. Soon afer arrival they settled in what is now known as Hahndorf (named after the captain of the 'Zebra'). The Bottroff family originate from Birnbaum in the former Province of Posen in Prussia [now Miedzychod-Poland]. In c1846 they moved across to Treuenbrietzen, 50km sse of Berlin. My great-great Grandfather, Paul Bottroff, was born here in 1847 and later emigrated with his family on the 'Iserbrook', arriving in South Australia in March 1854. From here the family settled in Lobethal and continued to reside in the Adelaide Hills area.
The Drefke family were from Lauenberg in the former Province of Pommern in Prussia [now Lebork-Poland]. My great-great-great grandparents, Carl Heinrich Drefke Snr. and Caroline (born Boettcher) arrived in Australia in 1883. Caroline's mother (a widow) had already emmigrated to Australia 1 year earlier on the 'Nebo'. The Drefke family home was located in the Mitcham area, a suburb of Adelaide.
Gradually I hope to add family photos, trees and other interesting information that relate to these family lines.
I'm very fortunate to have had other researchers go before me, making it very easy for me to access information pertaining to my relatives.
