The Pagans of Puerto Rico

Updated November 23, 2000

About Our Family Research

This is my first effort to find out about roots that go back farther than my grandparents. Where did we come from before Puerto Rico? My interest is sparked by the fact that my mother's maiden name is not a Spanish surname. Rather, it's a place name Lugo is the capital of the Spanish province of Galicia. It was a center of Sephardic Jewish culture in Spain until Ferdinand expelled the Jews from Spain. Some took the place name where they lived to be able to remain. They paid lip-service to Catholicism while worshiping as Jews in private. I shall attempt to discover from where both sets of ancesters spring.
