My PANEK ancestors came from the town of Trstena in the beautiful region of Orava, Slovakia.
Andreas PANEK (b:Abt 1790) was my GGG Grandfather. He married Anna STANKOVITZ (B:Abt 1790).
Their son, Stephan PANEK (b:Dec.8,1813) my GG Grandfather married Helena KOMINEK (b:Feb.8,1816) (m:Apr.29,1834).

The town of Trstena is situated in the charming but rugged mountainous Orava region in the northern part of central Slovakia near the Polish border. Trstena was founded as a market town in 1371 and has a current population of about 7500.

Pavol Orsagh Hviezdoslav, the great Slovak poet who worshipped the Orava region's beauty, wrote of his home, "I greet you, forests and mountains, from the bottom of my soul I greet you..." Orava, sometimes called the forgotten corner of the Slovak homeland, is a land of fragrant meadows, deep forests and dark-blue mountains.
