Ambrose Park(e)s and his wife Frances Livingston Isbell Parkes were from Wilkes County, North Carolina. Four of their sons and one daughter settled in Lynchburg, Tennessee in the mid 1820s. On one visit through Lynchburg, Tennessee to see their children, Ambrose was described by a relative as a small man, a small "white headed Scotchman", and his wife was very large woman -- he called her a "very large Irish woman". All the sons of Ambrose Parkes who settled in the vicinity of Lynchburg were also noted as being large men weighing over two hundred pounds. Ambrose is the grandson of of Thomas Park(e)s, who settled on the Rappahannock River in Virginia in the mid 1600's.
