This is a family that has not had many reunions, and the Kanabay name in particular seems to be almost nonexistent except among my immediate relatives and just a few others, with whom I have no personal relationship. During the early part of the 20th century, until about the early 1950s, there were a few dozen people with the Kanabay name in Chicago. I have found the Kanabay name listed in death notices from the Polish newspaper, "Dziennik Chicagoski." I recognize most as being relatives of my father. But today, of the few Kanabays who seem to remain, I am directly related to more than half of the names I have found.
There was a whispered story among the adult relatives, when I was a child, that a great grandfather had spawned two distinct families. Oddly enough, many of the offspring bear the same given names in one family as in the other. I would certainly like to find out more about this "other" family, who no doubt thinks of my family and "the other family."
My search has barely begun! Tree information will be added soon! Please contact me if either of the following names rings a bell: Kanabay or Kanabaj
