OBITUARY from The Daily Mail, Nevada, Vernon Co., MO; Mon. July 21, 1902:
From Allen Evans, who was in Nevada Monday, the Mail learned of the death of W. H. Ripley, which occurred under very sad circumstances. Mr. Ripley, who was 89 years of age, had been in Oklahoma and, on last Monday, he started to walk 11 miles to visit his son-in-law and lost his way. For four days, he wandered about before he was found. During those four days, he suffered from over-exertion and loss of food, and on Friday, he died.
The deceased was well and favorably known by many people of this county, who regret to learn of his death. He was the father of Horace Ripley, well-known citizen of Coal township. The remains were shipped to Vernon county and buried Sunday at the Reynolds graveyard.
