Notes for George W. Ripley: [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 13, Ed. 1, Tree #2752, Date of Import: Jul 29, 2001]
George Ripley died less than a month before his 97th birthday. As a young man in his 20s, he drove freight wagons in and around Lincoln county, New Mexico. He was a very uncommunicative man--we suspected that when he said, "I knew a feller once who . . . ." that he was speaking of himself in the third person, especially when remembering events that took place in his younger days. It is not known if he knew Billy the Kid or not, but he seemed reluctant to talk about it when questioned. As far as we know, he never married. However, my grandmother was with him during his last days in the hospital. She said that several times he spoke the name of a woman that she had never heard before. This only added to the mystery of George. . . . . Lavada F. Bonnett.
