John William Patrick (son of Henry Patrick and Rachel Smith) was born March 07, 1842 in Upshur Co. TX, and died May 05, 1918 in Wood CO. TX. He married Matilda Jane Graves on 1860.
Notes for John William Patrick: "Uncle John Patrick" John William Patrick was born March 7th, 1842, in Upshur county, Texas, and at the age of 15 he came with his parents to Wood county where he had since resided except while serving in the civil war ... (he did live in Hunt County, Texas for a period of time). At the age of 17 he was married to Miss Matilda Graves and to this union 11 children were born, 8 boys and 3 girls, of whom 6 boys and 1 girl are living. His wife died in 1879 (Matilda was listed on the June 14, 1880 census) and he later married Elizabeth Shipes and to this union two childrn were born one of whom died in infancy, the other survives. His second wife died in 1896 and he was later married to Lou Pain (Payne) and this wife survives. He volunteered at the beginning of the civil war and was a member of Co. E. under Capt. Renshaw. He served throughout the memorable struggle and was a valiant and brave soldier. His eight living children are: Mrs. T. F. Dodgen, of Winnsboro, H.N., A.K., G.W., R.L., J.W.H., and W.J. Patrick, and Mrs. Dave Reese, all living in the same and adjoining neighborhoods of where Uncle John died, and were all present when the end came. He has 54 grand children living, 31 great grand children, and two brothers, George and Jim Patrick of Winnsboro, who survive him. He died on a Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Note: John William Patrick was buried at Sand Springs Cemetery in Wood County Texas. He died of Nephritis. The Mortuary Warrant shows his casket cost $28.00 and the robe & Ct. was $17.00, a total of $45.00.
