I am presently researching my family tree, I have been told we we have descendants from the Metis People from Manitoba,, and I have found our family name to be in there. Although I am having a terrible time connecting anyone as most of my immediate family are not available for discussions and are unwilling to associate with the Metis aspect of our past. Apparently they have done everything they could to deny it, to the point of telling the darker children to stay out of the sun and warned us of harrassment from our piers. I know this to be true as I have myself been treated badly by schoolchildren in my younger years calling me a "squaw",, though I managed to ignore their insults I also felt a certain pride in the possibility as I felt a spiritual affinity with them. In highshool I studied Indian Culture rather than American History, and became friends and had relationships with them, and felt as a part of them. I am hoping to locate the names of my Ancestors through research here,, I welcome any assistance,,
