Carl LaVerne Peery was born Jan. 3, 1920 as the second child of Reece Carl Peery and Goldie Edith Schnelle, in Nelson, Nebraska.
He was known to everyone as Carl Peery, but to family, he was known as LaVerne.
He grew up as a farmer in Nebraska and Missouri, with his parents and four brothers and sisters.
He never finished high school but was self educated on many subjects.
In the early 1940's he went to Washington, D.C. and was working driving a bulldozer at the beginning of World War II and decided to enter the U.S. Army Air Corp.
He learned to fly in the army and it began a lifelong love of airplanes for LaVerne.
After the war he returned to his home in Missouri and began working for the Santa Fe Railroad, in Kansas City, Missouri.
He married Laura Birt and they had no children although she had one daughter from a previous marriage. They were together almost 50 years until her death.
In the early 1980's when his widowed mother decided to sell her home in Marionville, Missouri, LaVerne and Laura bought the house from her and moved to Marionville from Kansas City.
In Marionville, he was active in local politics and was quite a well known character with his horse and buggy driving around town.
LaVerne died at home in Marionville, Missouri on Dec. 22, 2001, just twelve days before his 82nd birthday.
