Helveston/Helfenstein/Helfenstine of Fort Myers, Florida

About Our Family Research

Tracing the family name Helveston, seems to start from Gravesend, England on a boat that can't be found. Name spellings have changed over the years from Helfenstein, Helphinstine. So far we seem to belong to George Helfenstein or Johann Helfenstein group that settled in Savannah, Georgia in 1733/1735. We have a copy of a written diary John Wesley kept which lists different names from the boat. Some names listed besides ours are: Captain John Thomas and Joseph Cornish, James Oglethorpe, John and Charles Wesley, Johann Gottfreid Christ, Friedrich Wilhelm Muller, Von Reck, Andrias Lorentz Arnsdorff. While searching as someone new to geneology, I find many interesting things that you can learn by. Too all who work family history searchs I wish you good luck.
