| About Our Family Research |
|
I got interested in my family history rather late, and am currently just starting my research. Both my father and mother came from coal mining families in Pike and Letcher Counties, Kentucky. Both have family ties to Sandy Ridge, Virginia, and my great-grandfather Samuel Pennell reportedly lived for a time in Cranberry, North Carolina. My great-grandmother Matilda Cable Johnson is related to the Cables who settled Cades Cove in what is now the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Her side (Cable) has been researched back to a Hessian soldier who sided with the Americans during the Revolutionary War, and stayed in the Carolinas after the war.
I am sure of the Pennell line only back to my Great-grandfather Samuel Pennell...but have some information from another researcher that if accurate goes back several more genarations.
