Mary Woodle Dunwiddie is not mentioned in her mother's obituary(Rockford,
IL, Daily Register Gazette, July 6, 1896) as her daughterbecause she had
predeceased her mother. The obituary does say, however,that 'Mrs. Swan
of Milton, Wis., and Mrs. Dunwoodie (sic) of Janesville,granddaughters,
were here to attend the funeral.' These were Mary'sdaughters. Obituary
in The County Journal, Monroe, WI, December 26, 1893, Vol. VI,No. 47, p.
1, col. 5 sent by Foster Dunwiddie, Edina, MN. DEATH OF MRS. MARY
DUNWIDDIE 'Mrs. Mary Dunwiddie, of Juda, one well known by everyone
living in thatpart of the county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
C. S. Swan ofMilton, where she had been visiting, December 20th, 1893.
Mrs. Dunwiddiewas the wife of Hiram Dunwiddie, deceased, the mother of
Conductor NewtonDunwiddie, of the CM&P railway and has been a resident of
this county along, long period. She was a sister-in-law of Hon. Brooks
Dunwiddie,Probate Judge, and died with pneumonia. She was buried at Juda
Thursdaylast and Rev. Andereck, of the Baptist Church officiated. '
History of Green County, Wisconsin, 1885, p. 1095: 'Hiram Dunwiddie, son
of John Dunwiddie, was born in Green Co., Ohio, in1843 (wrong--he was
married in 1843). He came to Green Co., Wis., incompany with his
brothers, Daniel, David and Brooks, all of whom areliving in this county.
Hiram was married to Mary Woodel (sic), and tenchildren were born to
them--Joel, deceased; Ruth, wife of George Osborn,living in Furness Co.,
Neb.; Susan, wife of Charles Scudder, of BatesCo., Mo.; Adelaide,
deceased; Newton, Alice, wife of Frank Osborn ofFurness Co., Neb.;
George, living in Idaho; Eldora, deceased; Libbie,wife of Charles Swan.
Hiram Dunwiddie settled in the town of Jefferson,one and a half miles
south of Juda, where he owned 220 acres of land. Heresided here until
his death, which occurred June 17, 1869. His widownow lives in the
village of Juda.'
