Rev. James Allen (son of John Peter Allen and Elizabeth Lindsey) was born November 24, 1775 in Brunswick County, Virginia, and died January 06, 1826 in Woodruff, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He married Mary "Polly" Woodruff on December 24, 1808 in Woodruff, South Carolina, daughter of Joseph Woodruff and Anne Lindsey.

I James Allen being of proper mind and senses do leave these lines for my last will and testament and for my property to be disposed of in the following manner Viz for my wife Mary Allen to keep possession of all my land and plantation but 100 acres lying at the north end also as much of the household furniture and stock and plantation tools and every other part of my property as She Shall think proper to keep all of my children that is not of age as a family until they become of age or marry then to give them the same amount in property as is charged to the under named children as for her to be in full possession of the above mentioned property such part as shall be left after she gives them with her and equal portion with them that is married to keep the balance during her life is she remains a widow if she married to have an equal childs part. Elizabeth Cox has Received one hundred and seventy five dollars, Joseph Allen one hundred and seventy five dollars, Anna Hinds one hundred and seventy five dollars, John Allen to have the above named hundred acres of land if he likes it at three dollars per acre if he keeps the land he obliges himself to pay back to the estate one hundred and twenty five dollars if he does not like the land he is to have a childs part in other property the other children James, Moses H., Sarah Polley, to remain as a family also if my wife Mary Allen chooses a childs part when the youngest child becomes of age and are all made equal the balance of the property to be sold and the money equally divided but if she had rather after the children are all made equal she have the third part of the remaining property she is to keep it her lifetime then it to be equally divided among the legatees and if at present time there is any perishable property more than is to use to the family it is to be sold and divided equal and I do hereby appoint Joseph Allen, Matthew Allen my executors and do hereby acknowledge this to be my last will and testament whereof I do here unto set my hand and seal this second day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.

James Allen is buried in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Woodruff, South Carolina. His headstone reads: "Sacred to the Memory of James Allen who departed this life 6th Jan'y 1826 aged 50 years 2 mo's & 12 days He was for 24 years a professor of Religion in the Baptist Denomination, 6 years of the last of his life he devoted to the Sacred Ministry. His life and death were both the same both honored the Redeemer's name"
