James Forbes was born in 1657, let Scotland and came to America. Forbes Settled in Accomack County, Virginia and his name first appeared on the tax books in 1678. Forbes acquired 100 acres of land near Modest Town on the Eastern Shore from Daniel of St. Thomas and Elizabeth Jennifer. Alice Clason also settled at Modest on the Eastern Shore. Date of her arrival in America is not known. James and Alice met and married. While in Accomadk County they began thier family. Thier chidlren were John, James Jr.,Elizabeth, Thomas, Bailey and Edward. The Forbes family was admitted to North Carolin on October 20, 1701,after selling his farm in Accomack in April of 1701. Forbes was admitted and assighed to Issac Guilford who sponsored him. The next actual record of Forbes in North Carolina was his acquisition of a land grant in Riddle, North Carolina which states, "James Forbes, 21 October 1715, 532 acres on ye N. East side of Pasquotand River, joning a Beaver Dam Swamp." This historical account of the Forbes family has been compliled over a period of years by Willard Forbes. Willard Forbes has a Family and Friends Reuinion every year at Thomas Point in Old Trap, North Carolina. Last August 13th Sunday 2000, was thier 33rd year.
