My Cross lineage includes Cross (England, VA, AL, AR), Cook (MS, AR), Mayes (AL, AR), Oak/es (VA, AL, AR), Featherston/e (England, VA), Strozier (Germany, GA, AR), Mathews (Wales, VA, GA, AR), Welsh (Germany, AR, LA), Anderson (PA), Williams (MD, OH), Bretz (OH), Frees (Germany, PA, OH, LA), McEwen (Scotland, PA) and other related families.

My family database includes my direct ancestors, their siblings, and descendants to the level of third cousin from the direct line.     Photograph of my great-great-great grandparents, William Hunter Cross (1825-1862) and Lucy W. Mayes Cross (1826-1885) taken about 1860. William Hunter Cross served in the 17th Louisiana Infantry, Confederate States Army; he was killed at the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee, April 7, 1862. Lucy W. Cross and their children moved to Arkansas shortly thereafter.

    Charles John Welsh (1862-1902) operated Welsh's Sale Stable in Crowley, Louisiana. "He was one of the best known horsemen in the state and the stable he was conducting at the time of his death did an immense business." Working with horses was "a labor of love for him."--Crowley Signal, 1902.

    This photo of my great-great-grandfather, William Riley Dunn (1850-1904) was taken in Arkansas City, KS in 1890 when he was about 40 years old. He is the husband of Laura C.     William Hunter Cross' letter to his son, John William. Written from Camp Chalmette, Confederate Army training camp, 1861. William Hunter Cross was killed on 7 April 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh (TN).
  • A Prayer from Martha N. Beaver Steinberger (1 KB)
    This was written by my great-great-great grandmother, Martha N. Beaver Steinberger (1828-1916), on the inside back cover of the Steinberger family Bible, published in 1815. Although there is no family record printed in the Bible (much of the front matter is missing), it does contain some obituaries and other news clippings, miscellaneous locks of hair, and some inscriptions, most notably this one. The original Bible is in the possesion of my father, L. Ronald Plant.
