This Webpage is dedicated to Zakrajsek families originally of the "Iron Range" Region of Northern Minnesota and Slovenia, formerly part of the countries of Yugoslavia and prior to that, Austria.
Other major family names associated with the Zakrajsek family are: Gornik, Arko, Plevell/Plevel.
Frank (Franz/Franc) Zakrajsek (4 Oct 1871-14 March 1941) was born in Gora, Austria (Slovenia) to Franc and Franciska Zakrajsek. He immigrated to Northern Minnesota from Gora, Austria (Slovenia) at age 25 seeking new opportunities and prosperity. He arrived to the US on 12 November 1896 on the ship, Aller from the port of Bremen, Germany. In the early 1900s Frank Zakrajsek returned to Slovenia where he married Marija Gornik (18 March 1874-20 July 1927) from Gora, the daughter of Georg and Lucija (Arko) Gornik. He returned to the United States on 26 April 1905 on the ship, Kronprinz Willhelm fom the port of Bremen, Germay. Marija followed with daughter Mary on 5 July 1905 on the ship, Kaiser Wilhelm II also from the port of Bremen, Germany.
Frank and Marija Zakrajesk intially resided in Soudan, Mn and then later in nearby Aurora, MN. Frank worked as an Iron Ore Miner and later as a private contractor in support of mining operations. They had at least 13 children; Mary, Pauline, Frank, Frederik, Rose, Johanna, John, Anton, Sophie, Angelea, Anne, Matthew, and Justine.
