I was born on June 17, 1938 to Raymond Luther (R. L.) and Edith Vivian (Heathcoat) Poff at Weatherford, OK. I grew up in and around (Merritt community) Elk City, OK and graduated HS in 1956.
My father's parents were Thomas Esker Poff and Anna (Grissom) Poff. They migrated to Oklahoma in the late 19th century and farmed at Durham, OK, later moving to Lexington, OK and then to a farm southwest of Elk City, OK. Thomas Esker was killed by lightning in 1938 and Anna died in the mid 70s. Both are buried in Fairlawn cemetary in Elk City.
My mother's parents were James Lawson Heathcoat and Sarah Elizebeth (Green)Heathcoat. James Lawson was born in TN in 1875 and moved to Logan county AR while a small boy. Sarah was born in Logan county AR. They moved to Elk City, OK in 1926 and farmed SW of Elk City in the Merritt community. James Lawson died in 1952 and Sarah died in 1958. Both are buried in Fairlawn cemetary in Elk City.
