My Dad, William Raymond Polk, passed away in 1999, at 83 years of age. Before his passing, he told us that years ago, he had paid $100 to have our family name researched. He stated that we were related to President James Knox Polk, through James K's brother. I, his son, William Raymond Polk Jr., have started to research this statement, to either prove, or disprove this research Dad paid for. My search has halted at A. L. Polk also know as Archibald L. Polk, with the "L" possibly being his mothers last name, Long. This individual was possibly a son from Mary Long's failed marriage or her illegitimate son as no record has been found thus far of her being married. Nonetheless, his fathers name is being sought after by several individiuals, who have hit the same "brick wall" as I have. My Grandfather was Robert Newton Polk of Georgia. My Great Grandfather was Berry Franklin Polk, also of Georgia. My Great Great Grandfather is the "mysterious" Archibald L. (Long?) Polk, son of Mary Long.

It appears that Archibald is a Mecklenburg Polk, and his Grandfather was the famed William Polk, Great Grandfather of James Knox Polk. My family line is not from the 11th Presidents brother, as Dad was told, but it is most likely through William Polk and Margaret Taylor.
