MALTA:- The earliest known ancestor is Andrea Puglisevich, born approx 1780. He married Regina Bonnici in Malta about 1800. There is a document of him living in Valletta in 1814. His son Vincent born 1802 married Cortenza Eustakia Fenech in Malta and they had at least 3 children all born in Constantinoples The first; a daughter Serafina born about 1830 married Giuseppe Brocktorff (also born in Constantinople) in the parish of B'kara,Malta on 10/06/1859. The second; Andrea born 1831, Set up a Printing Press in Palm Square,Msida. He married Eugenia Tabone and had two daughters that we know of. Carmela born 1857 married Calesto Maestre and Adele born about 1860 married Salvatore Calleja.(Two infants are said to have died at birth in Floriana). The third; Francesco Saverio also born in Constantinople in 1832, married in Malta in 1859 to Carmela Cachia, from whom all the existing family descend. SOUTH AMERICA:- A Croatian surname study in Chile and Argentina revealed some 95 people called Puglisevich with a variety of spelling. Andro Puljizevic (editor of "Mundo Slavo") emigrated to Peru early 1900. he died in 1954. In the "La Estrella" journal we read that a two and a half year old baby boy Yerko Puglisevich was abandoned by his French-born,Swiss mother in Peru. He was rescued by his father Lautero Puglisevich and taken back to Chile. USA:- In an 1870 California census we came across the name of Antoine Puglisevitch. According to a ship's manifest, Vincent Puglisevich born 1864 in Austria-Dubrovnik returned to Dallas USA where he had been living since 1881. There is a Victor and Cindy Puglisevich who live in Mendon,Massachusetts and one Elna(Jacks)Pulisivich from Santa Cruz who died in 1982. There are some 24 Pulisevich and over 30 Puglizevich living mainly in Washington and California. Anna Pulizevich officiates at the Croatian Catholic Church, San Jose, California. The church's benefactor was Ana Pavlicevich (1891-1985) CROATIA:- In the Dubrovnik telephone directory there are 48 PULJIZEVIC' names listed (Croatian spelling), most of whom live in Zaton Mali. A family of PULISEVICH lived and died in Brac, an Island off the west coast of Croatia.They were; Grandfather/mother born 1844/48,their son John born 1869 who married Maria Harasich in 1896 and their 5 children . CANADA & AUSTRALIA:- There are five cousins living with their families in Canada and one in Australia. I wish to find out how the family name spread (possibly from the region of Puglia, Southern Italy) to Ragusa/Dubrovnik and what connection there was with Constantinople before they settled in Malta.
